Chicago - 2002 musical

Posted by Sri On 8:50 AM
Dont blame me if I am too laggard and am posting my comments on a 2002 musical. Its just that I am self-mentored(!) in these areas and am trying to do a catch up of movies.
BTW, this one is fantastic. Have seen this movie 3 times, just to enjoy the dry humor and sarcasm.
"I fired two warning shots - on his head"
"Some people cant hold their arsenic"

The songs, rendered by the actors themselves are the most fascinating. My personal favorite is "When youre good to Mama, Mama's good to you"..Queen Latifa as Mama, the matron was simply fabulous..Not to mention Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta Jones and Renny Zellwegger..
Must see for all, who havent seen this great musical

exploring the world

Posted by Sri On 1:35 PM
Had a wonderful oppurtunity to visit the Museum of Fine Arts couple of weeks back. The Oil on Canvas paintings made during the renaissance era, the sculptures of Rome, the various portrayals of the Virgin, the Pyramids of Egypt and the masks of Africans were spectacular to say the least. Now I can confidently say that I have picked up a thing or two about art and architecture. For example, the mummies - I can differentiate between the mummy of a regal deceased vis-a-vis any other rich person;how the mummifying process transcended after romans captured egypt etc.
Last week, I also had another oppurtunity to tour the DC. We were fortunate to get into the Whitehouse gardens - the tulips were breathstaking and we could still spot a cherry blossom or two though most of the blossom was gone when we reached the DC. I had a lot of deja vu looking at the various memorials since the memorials reminded me of many other buildings that I have seen. Generally speaking, a lot of memorials and other buildings in DC and New York have hevily borrowed from the Greek Parthenon (with its doric / ionic / corinthean columns). Jefferson's memorial is a pantheon domed one; Lincoln's is a doric temple...Wish I need to re-read The fountainhead -just concentrating on the architecture part and cutting the objectivism crap.

Prakash Raj's interview in Koffee with Anu

Posted by Sri On 1:05 PM
"My Mom is a beautiful lady. she has taught me never to be afraid of anything. She has sacrificed so much for me..In my next birth, I want to have her as my wife"
Thus spake Prakash Raj, in his interview in Vijay TV (I watched a youtube version of it)..I was thrown back by his words..I mean, how much a would man have understood his mother's love, pain and sacrifice that he says " Adutha Jenmathila ava en pondatiya varanumnu solluven". A man who wants to make good cinema, wants to bring out the talents in others, has helped so many people to realize their dreams and who is untouched by the fear of social acceptance (the above-mentioned quote itself stands as a testimony for that) - hats off, Prakash !

BTW, his regular column in Anandha Vikatan is a feast to one's thoughts and emotions.. While I feel that Katradhum Petradhum is becoming more clinical and a bit arrogant at times, my reading order has naturally shuffled and has made Prakash's column the first prioirty for reading these days...

Wiki -ing all the way

Posted by Sri On 10:42 AM
Do you love to travel and like getting lost while treading along the road and enjoying the scenic beauty of nature? I get the same feeling when I use wikipedia...Through a series of clicks across pages, I have ended up reading many interesting articles. Some of the recent topics I covered, include: Audrey Hepburn, Psycho, Boston, Penguins, Hawaii, Shirley Temple, Joseph of Arimathea, gothic architecture..
Information, which was not so easily available and accessible sometime back, is gushing out to reach us...Simply fascinating !

Will shortly write about the Museum of Fine Arts and Old South Church that I visted over the weekend.

The Departed

Posted by Sri On 9:13 AM
Man, Was stunned by the slick screenplay and the superb acting of Jack Nicholson (I really admire this guy's histrionics. How can one forget the "You cannot handle the truth" dialogue!). But more than that, the number of cuss words in this movie was uncountable (Motherfucker, My Mother fucked your father, Jesus fuckin Christ and so on and so forth). Couldnt stomach so much of bad words..Also, I am so used to tamil films that I was expecting Matt Damon to wink at the guy to whom he imposters as Attorney and asks him to call home and leave message about supper !!

Leonardo should thank his luck for not being born in Tamilnadu. Else, after the success of Titanic, he would have been stereotyped as a lover boy in epics like Kadhal padagu, Kadhal flight, kadhal bus etc...How I wish tamil cinema makes movies of multiple genres at the same point in time !

Sidney Sheldon dead !!!

Posted by Sri On 11:13 PM
For any novice in reading english fiction, sheldon has been the usual starting point - suspense, romance and excellent narration sprinkled in an enchanting plot had been the recipe of Sheldon. I have read all his novels, but I cannot match the title against its respective plot. But the novels provided a lot of information - mercy killing, MPD etc., besides being a good timepass. For a change the protoganist was always a female.

Some of the characters like Ashley Patterson, Robert Bellami, Lara Cameron, the lawyer in rage of angels, the ambassador of Romania are all etched in our minds forever. May his soul RIP.
